Real-World Example

When AI gets the menu wrong.

One inaccurate description. One hungry, disappointed customer. One small reminder that online menus still need human review.

The Story

It started with a familiar order.

Next Bite Digital was born from a few real experiences where trusting a food delivery platform's listing did not go exactly as expected.

One night, I ordered my usual from a favorite local restaurant. My wife was not especially hungry, but she wanted something simple: stir-fried noodles. My wife frequently orders stir-fried noodles as a side dish from a local Asian restaurant we vsit often because she likes them so much.

Then we found a menu item described as:

“Stir-fried noodles with vegetables in a light brown sauce.”

Her reaction was immediate: “Ooo, yeah. I want that.”

I did not notice the warning that the description had been generated by AI. Even if I had, I am not sure I would have fully understood what that meant in the moment. The price was only one dollar, which should have been a clue that something was off. But based on the description, we thought it was a simple noodle dish.

Expectation vs. Reality

The description did not match the item.

Expected

Stir-fried noodles with vegetables

Received

A small single-serve bag of crispy wonton strips

What arrived was not a noodle dish. It was a topping meant to accompany another item. The restaurant's food is genuinely very good, but the inaccurate description created a poor customer experience.

Why It Matters

A small mistake can change future orders.

Needless to say, my wife was disappointed. She expected dinner and ended up with something that was never meant to be a meal.

The lasting effect was bigger than that one order. Even though the food from this restaurant is very good, she now usually passes whenever I ask if she wants anything from there.

That is the problem with inaccurate online listings. They do not just create confusion in the moment. They can damage trust, reduce repeat orders, and make customers hesitate the next time they see the restaurant.

At Next Bite Digital, we help restaurants catch issues like this before customers do by reviewing menu descriptions, photos, delivery app listings, Google profiles, and other online details for clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
